Alyson grew up in Texas and has called Houston home for over 10 years. In addition to being a mom to her two kids, Blake (8) and Claire (5), she is helping start a new business and staying involved with her kids’ schools. She also enjoys working out, playing tennis, and making sure her family has a steady diet of health foods.
Health and nutrition has always been a focal point for Alyson, which is why, at the young age of 35, she was shocked when she was diagnosed with DCIS, non-invasive breast cancer. She discovered a lump, and after two visits to her physician, she insisted on a mammogram. Although the lump was benign, the ultrasound revealed DCIS. Because of her young age, she decided to have a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction.
Alyson truly believes that being her own advocate changed her outcome. She feels so blessed to be a breast cancer survivor and wants women, especially younger women, to be aware that although it’s less likely, breast cancer can affect women in their 20s and 30s.
Alyson and Colton created a product and started a company, VINGLACE, in 2016, and knew they wanted to support breast cancer research and give back in some way. They are grateful that their product allows them to do that. This will always be something near and dear to their hearts.
In addition to the 2017 Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation Luncheon, Alyson also participated in the 2015 Neiman Marcus Stiletto Strut benefitting the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center and Baylor College of Medicine.
